Paris Hilton opens new handbag store in Manila

Paris Hilton has opened a new handbag store in a Manila mall.

Hundreds of star-struck fans, local celebrities and journalists jostled to see her Thursday, cameras ready. Wild cheers erupted when Hilton told the crowd "I love you" in the local Tagalog language. She said she'll miss Manila and plans to be back soon to open a resort-inspired residential project.

Taylor Swift Wardrobe Malfunction

Taylor Swift is well-known for favoring floaty, feminine frocks (phew, how's that for alliteration?). Her signature style backfired on her unexpectedly, however, during her tour stop in St. Louis on Sunday.

Swift took the stage that evening to perform her hit "You Belong With Me," dressed in one of her trademark gowns. A wind machine on stage must have been ill-placed, because the singer stepped in front of it--and it blew her dress's swishy skirt right up, fully exposing her rear end!

Luckily, Swift was prepared for such a "wardrobe malfunction"--she was wearing nude-colored briefs, which offered complete coverage and kept the mishap decidedly G-rated.

Most admirably, Swift kept her cool during the little blowup. Most girls would have reflexively grabbed at the skirt--but, ever the professional, Swift merely scuttled a bit and continued on with her performance. In fact, fans watching her from the front probably had no idea any funny business had gone on. Watch for yourselves:

Prince Stefan mulls legal action over malicious blog

Kapuso actor Prince Stefan said he is considering legal action over the blog article that claimed that he is using illegal drugs and is planning to marry his alleged gay lover in New York.

“Hindi naman pwedeng wala kang gagawin, di ba? Sinisira nila yung name mo, yung pagkatao mo. Naapektuhan yung self-esteem mo, yung self-confidence mo,” he told GMA-7's “Showbiz Central” in a taped interview aired last Sunday, August 14.

The “Starstruck” contestant said his two lawyer uncles are helping him take certain steps against those responsible for the blog.

“Slowly but surely,” Prince said.

Model draws flak for bashing PNoy-Paris Hilton meet

MANILA, Philippines - Celebrity model Georgina Wilson is drawing flak for reacting negatively to reports that President Benigo "Noynoy" Aquino III will meet socialite and hotel heiress Paris Hilton on Monday.

In her official Twitter account, Wilson said it was shameful that the President does not have better things to do than to meet with the famed celebutante and reality TV actress.

Beauty Queen Scandal in Boracay

Maggie Wilson and Danielle Castano, both Binibining Pilipinas World titleholders, reportedly involved in a catfight in Boracay also last Tuesday, the same day Andrew Wolff was arrested.

It has been reported that Danielle filed a complaint at the police station against a Boracay resident named Mary Ann Beroya for allegedly slapping her during a confrontation in a bar at Hey Jude Boracay Resort.

According to Danielle, the girl confronted her and accused her of something she didn't do. Violent scenes followed afterwards.

Maggie and Paolo Bediones' girlfriend Abby Cruz accompanied Danielle at the police station.

It's unclear though if Maggie and Abby participated in the brawling incident, but I think they're not. However, some news reports, especially the ones shown on TV, had Maggie in the headlines, leading you to think she also took part in the fight.

One isyusero posted a comment in one of my posts that Danielle allegedly beat a 14-year-old child.

It goes this way:

"Danielle Castano together with Maggie Wilson got into a fight in Boracay on April 6, 2009 in the evening. Umabot pa sa point na may tinulak si Danielle na bata, as in 14 years old. Nagalit tuloy ang nanay ng bata, ayan tuloy, nabugbog si Danielle. While Ms. Maggie was screaming her lungs off cursing the cops and letting everyone hear her conversation with a lawyer. According to reports, Danielle even cursed the child that she eventually pushed. Paano ba naman, kawawang bata, pinagtanggol lang ang kanyang ina na pinagmumura ng Danielle na 'yan."

Really?? If it's true, it's completely against Danielle's advocacy when she was a contestant in Miss World 2008. She said in one of her interviews that she wanted to fight for the rights of the children.

World's largest Ferris wheel to roll into Las Vegas

A new development project on the Las Vegas strip that includes the world's largest Ferris wheel has been given the go-ahead.

The $500 million project, named "Project Linq," will link center-strip resorts Imperial Palace and Flamingo Vegas and is expected to take around 18 months to complete.

As part of the project, a new 550-foot (167.6-meter) high observation wheel carrying 28 cabins with 40 people in each will be constructed, in an attempt to broaden the attraction of Las Vegas further than existing casinos.

If it measures up as planned, it will top the world's existing tallest Ferris wheel, the Singapore Flyer, by just nine feet (2.7 meters).

Also on offer will be restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, reports the Las Vegas Sun.

As part of the project, both the Imperial Palace and O'Sheas will be "re-skinned," getting new facades which the company behind the project, Caesar's Entertainment, says will help to revitalize the area of the famous Strip.

Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the US, attracting nearly 30 million visitors every year, according to Forbes -- second only to New York's Times Square.

Facebook's New Chat List

After receiving flak for reorganizing users’ chat lists, social networking giant Facebook did it again: reorganizing the list and placing friends they interact with most at the top of the list.

Friends whose profiles the user interacts with most are listed at the top of the list, while others are placed in a list of “more online friends" below.

The changes were implemented Thursday morning in response to user feedback from a redesign of chat in July, tech site Mashable quoted a Facebook spokesperson as saying.

Mashable noted about 28,000 people had “liked" a Facebook Page entitled “I hate the new Facebook sidebar chat" – the first time Facebook had recently reorganized the chat list.

The latest redesigned chat now stretches from the top of the browser to the bottom instead of being contained to its previous pop-up box.

It showed only a selection of friends instead of everyone who was online.

Before July, all online friends appeared in the same bar in alphabetical order.

Mashable quoted the Facebook spokesperson as saying this most recent change is not a test.

Ms. Earth 2008 Karla Henry stabbed

Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry was stabbed outside her Mandaluyong condominium on Thursday, August 11.

A drunk tenant stabbed the 25-year-old beauty queen from Cebu at the parking lot of the California Garden Square condominium in Mandaluyong City, ABS-CBN's "TV Patrol" reported later Thursday.

Friends rushed Karla to a nearby Mandaluyong hospital before transferring her to St. Luke's Global City in Taguig City.

According to the "TV Patrol" report, a certain Jerome Quibuyen, 29, stabbed Karla in the back as she was on her way to the condominium elevator after she arrived at the parking lot at 6 a.m. Thursday.

Karla is now out of danger and doctors are observing her condition. She is undergoing tests for possible internal bleeding, the report further said.

“We should remind everyone to be extra careful, because people can just attack you, even in broad daylight,” advised the source, Karla’s friend, who wished not to be named.

Henry,a Fil-Canadian, won the eighth edition of the Miss Earth Pageant at the Clark Expo in Angeles, Pampanga in 2008. She was the first candidate from the host country to win the title.

The source said Karla continued to help promote environmental causes even after her reign.

Through Miss Earth Foundation’s "I Love My Planet Earth School Tour," Karla visited more than 20 schools and communities, teaching kids about the environment, through games, songs, storytelling, and tree-planting activities.

Philippine body bans 23 more whitening products

Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - The Philippine Food and Drug Administration ordered the banning of 23 more cosmetic whitening products found to contain mercury exceeding legal limits.

Most of the products do not contain information on place of manufacture in their packaging. Those that have show they were either made in Hong Kong, Taiwan or China.

After put to laboratory analysis, the products were found to contain mercury in excess of the legal limit of ¿one part per million," according to FDA director Suzette Lazo.

¿These cosmetic products, therefore, pose imminent danger or injury to the consuming public and the importation, selling or offering for sale of such is in direct violation of the FDA Act of 2009," FDA said in its Advisory No. 2011-012 issued Thursday.

The FDA ordered its personnel to seize all the banned products if found in retail outlets and establishments. Local government units were also asked to help in apprehending vendors of the banned products.

The newly-banned products are Miss Beauty Magic Cream; Miss Beauty Excellent Therapy Whitening Cream; Dagette and Ramsdell Underarm Lightening Cream; Lanmeirou 12 Days Whiten and Speckle Removing Suit; Berglotus Spot Removing Series; Yoko Gentlemen Cream for Men; Jonathan Clearing Facial Spots 12 Day Cream; The Flower Woman 7-day Whitening and Spot and Night Set Cream; Sara Glutathione Sheep Placenta Whitening and Anti-Spot Cream; Aichun Beauty Green Tea Whitening Speckle Removing Series Cream; and Aichun Beauty Whitening Freckle Day and Night Cream.

Others earlier placed on the list were BIB Night Cream Whitening Cream - 922; Pretty Model Whitening and Freckle Removing (Day Cream and Night Cream-Set); Pretty Girl 10 Day Special Cream; Pretty Girl Green Cucumber and Ginseng Cream; Liliki Whitening Day Cream - 911; Liliki Whitening Night Cream - 912; New Miss Beauty Magic Cream; Jiaoli Rejuvenation Essence 10 Days Speckle Removing; Jaio Liang 7 Days Eliminating Fredkle AB Set; Jiao Liang 10 Days Eliminating Fredkle AB Set; Beauty Girl 6 Days Specific Eliminating Fredkle Whitening Cream Egg White and Tomato 3in1; and Beautiful Dream Whitening Anti-Speckle and Anti-Azne Kit.

The FDA examinations and subsequent ban were taken in response to claims of antitoxic group, EcoWaste Coalition, that there were beauty products with ¿atrociously¿ high levels of mercury content, with some going as high as 28,600 ppm.

According to the Department of Health, mercury is a known neurotoxicant, which damages the kidneys and many body systems, including the nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, hematologic, immune and reproductive systems.

Blackberry Playbook available in PHL starting Aug. 6

Blackberry phones have already gone head to head with Apple Iphones, but now Research In Motion (RIM) has announced on Friday that the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet — its contender to the popular Apple Ipad — will finally be available in the Philippines starting the 6th August 2011.

The BlackBerry’s first tablet computer will come in three Wi-Fi models, featuring 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of memory storage, and will be available nation-wide from authorized retail stores and mobile operators with a 12-month warranty. Sorry, folks, no 3-G support; but that’s what Blackberry cell phones are there for.

“The BlackBerry PlayBook is an incredibly powerful and feature-rich tablet that is ideal for both business and personal use," said Gregory Wade, Regional Managing Director at Research In Motion, in a press release posted on the RIM website.

“You really need to hold the BlackBerry PlayBook in your hand to fully appreciate how much it stands out in terms of power and portability, and so we encourage customers to visit a retail store and try it out for themselves," added Wade.

The PlayBook weighs less than a half a kilogram (425g) and is less than half an inch thick, sporting a 7-inch WSVGA capacitive LCD touch screen (1024 x 600). It supports Bluetooth 2.1, Adobe Flash, true multitasking, high definition (HD) multimedia, advanced security features, and out-of-the-box enterprise support.

BlackBerry PlayBook specifications include a 1 GHz dual-core processor; dual HD cameras for video conferencing and video capture (3MP front and 5MP rear); 1 GB RAM memory; GPS, Orientation Sensor (Accelerometer), 6-Axis Motion Sensor (Gyroscope), Digital Compass (Magnetometer); stereo speakers and stereo microphones.

Prices are P23,990 for 16GB PlayBook, P28,990 for the 32GB version, and P33,990 for the 64GB version. — TJD, GMA News
